Well, here we are at the end of a year like no other. We have all had to adapt to a very different world. COVID 19 has presented us with many challenges but we carry on and look to the future as 2020 draws to a close.
How we dealt with COVID 19
We might as well start with the biggest event of the year. COVID changed everything for us when lockdown hit. We have had to be more resourceful and flexible than ever. Despite the pandemic important safety checks still needed to be undertaken so we had to adapt our working lives to ensure we kept ourselves and our clients safe.
We started by prioritising buildings and offices that were empty to ensure maximum safety. When working in any building we introduced safety measures including masks and social distancing.
All of our services were and still are operational in spite of the current situation. We advise people to keep up their building compliance and ensure all the necessary checks are completed as normal. Electrical equipment still needs to be maintained to a high standard. All our engineers are prepared to deal with any scenarios and issues and we have robust working practices that conform to COVID regulations.
We completed a full building shutdown
Earlier this year we were tasked with the huge job of performing a full building shutdown for one of our clients. This involved a 100% electrical check to ensure the whole building was working correctly and saving as much energy as possible. This was from the LV/HV rooms down to the fixed wire testing of distribution boards. These areas wouldn’t normally be accessible but with the building empty we could do a comprehensive check. This enormous task was done over a number of weekends. As with all our clients we were more than happy to take on this job to make sure their building was running at the best capacity possible. It also gives peace of mind to everyone who works there as they know their safety isn’t compromised.
Increase in demand for Thermal imaging surveys
Despite the pandemic we have seen a rise in demand for our services. We have seen a surge in demand for heat loss thermal imaging surveys on properties. At the moment people are looking to save energy and money and play their part in helping the environment. These surveys help us determine if there is any power or energy loss from equipment. We then perform tests and checks to rectify the problem which results in lower energy bills and helps the environment at the same time. You can find out more about this service here
Increase in popularity of Power factor correction
The increase in demand for this service is also linked to energy saving. We have seen a big interest and uptake for power quality surveys. These determine the efficiency of clients’ electrical supplies. In every case we investigated we found that a site’s supplies were affected by plant and equipment usage. This was causing a detrimental effect on the power factor to each of these sites. This information led us to recommend, install and commission de-tuned power factor correction units at each of these sites to help reduce energy consumption and costs. We are pleased to report that our clients are seeing a return on investment almost instantly. If you are interested in this service you can find out more about it here
Make sure your building is safe in 2021
Every year, and even more so this year, our top priority is keeping people safe and ensuring our clients’ building compliance is up to date. We do this by having our engineers on site testing, making recommendations on how components can be changed to increase building efficiency and performing repairs and maintenance of equipment as required.
As always, we are still offering phone calls to discuss your needs and can come to you for a site visit if required. There has actually never been a better time to ensure the safety of your employees. With so much uncertainty around the timing of a return to the workplace, having your building compliance complete is extremely important for any preparations for the return to work.
