Surge Protection

Surge protection devices help prevent damage to your important electrical equipment from powerful voltage spikes.

What is surge protection?

Surge protective devices (SPD) assist in the protection of valuable electrical and electronic equipment against transients, originating from lightning or from switching sources. These transients can cause damage ranging from the premature ageing of equipment, logic failures and down time, to the complete destruction of equipment within the entire electrical installation. A surge protector limits the voltage supplied to a device to prevent damage.

Why do I need surge protection?

Recently introduced standards put equal importance on protecting the electrical installation and electrical equipment within a building as protecting the building itself. Building owners have to abide by the British Standard BSEN62305-4 1st Sept 2008 & 17th Edition Wiring Regs Amendments 1st Jan 2012. This new standard makes it mandatory to fit a lightning current arrester on main incoming panels which are situated in buildings with external lightning conductors or fed by an overhead line.

Products such as LCD screens, data servers and industrial equipment that are critical to business activity could be affected by a voltage spike. If they are damaged the resulting downtime and lost production time could have a huge effect on your business.

How can Equiptest help me?

We use our experience to review your business devices and can give you the best solution for your surge protection needs. We can supply and install all the equipment you need to ensure you comply with British Standard legislation.  Surge protectors can be added to commercial and domestic devices to protect main panels or Sub-Distribution boards. These feed external circuits such as car park lighting, CCTV and Solar PV on both the AC & DC side of the inverters.

Our service provides the most effective way to provide long lasting protection for your electronic equipment from over voltage.
