Fixed Electrical Testing
The Health and Safety Executive demand stringent levels of inspecting and reporting on all fixed electricals in premises open to the public.
What is Fixed Electrical Testing?
Fixed electrical testing is used to inspect and test all electrical installations. We will identify any deficiencies and safety issues in accordance with the relevant British Standards and Codes of Practice.
Our engineer’s inspection will reveal any overloaded circuits or equipment, find any shock risks or fire hazards, spot defective electrical work, reveal lack of circuit protective conductor or bonding, and give a general overview of the installation.
Why do I need fixed electrical testing?
In stark terms faulty fixed electrical installations present a risk of death. There are clear regulations surrounding this. If you are an employer or a landlord you need to abide by these rules.
You have to be able to demonstrate that you have adequate circuit protective conductors and bonding, suitable switchgear and control gear as well as appropriate wiring systems and residual current devices for electrical equipment used outdoors. You must have all the necessary notices and identification and understand the implications around change of use.
What is the legal requirement?
The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), state that by law, an employer must take precautions against the risk of death or personal injury from electricity in work activities. You must meet the requirements of the latest BS7671 edition along with Current IEE Wiring Regulations and guidance notes.
Does it apply to me?
The regulations apply to all commercial, industrial, and retail environments that are available to the public. Regardless of the size of your business or property, if you have fixed electricals they need to be tested.
